RECN Fishers Response to Racial Inequities in Recent News

Updated: May 2, 2021

We are sending love out to our community as the last few weeks have been so heavy. The constant reminders of racial inequities in our country have been non-stop: the murder of Daunte Wright, the murder of 13-year old Adam Toledo, the pepper spraying of Caron Nazario, and the trial of Derek Chauvin who murdered George Floyd.

These specific incidents were not local; however, we have had our own reminders of hate and racism in our community of Fishers lately. One example would be the hateful and racist responses that many residents made on an HSE Facebook post that wished a Happy Ramadan to our Muslim friends, families, and neighbors. It was disheartening and disgusting to see how comfortable some people felt publicly sharing their racism and Islamphobia. As a community, we must speak up and disrupt inequities and hate when we see them happen. We urge you to take care of yourself and to take care of others.

RECN remains committed to our mission, which is to eliminate racism in Fishers, Indiana by educating the community and uniting individuals, organizations, and businesses who share our vision of creating a city that values and respects the right of all citizens to be their authentic selves. Please reach out to us if there is ever anything we can do to support you in the community.
